Last Saturday evening, in anticipation of the arrival of the solar storm, a few photographer friends and I set up for the night on the bridge over Chocorua Lake. I've been dreaming of getting a shot of the northern lights over this oft pho...tographed mountain since the last solar cycle, and anticipation was high.

We had one short burst of the lights at around 11:30PM, but there was a large lull before the main show finally arrived after 1AM. Pillars of light began rising over the mountain, and curtains of Aurora pulsed for about 20 minutes.

This shot ended up being a 66 second exposure at ISO 400 during the peak of the event.

While this is certainly an event I'll never forget, I'm hopeful that this is something we'll all see more of over the next two years as we reach the peak of the sunspot cycle!
